New tools

May 26, 2010

I’ve been working on several new things that will make a big difference in the quality of the model.

  1. I have extracted USGS topographical data that will let me make a more accurate terrain model–particularly around the river and for the hills to the east.  My plan is now to model the area from Military Plaza in the west to the Powder House in the East to La Villita in the South.
  2. I am evaluating Vue.  This tool not only has a very good renderer, but it will allow me to model the environment (trees, rocks, grasses, water, sky) with much greater realism.
  3. In order to use these more powerful tools, I am building a new Windows 7 computer with 8 thread processing (Intel Core i7-860)  and 4 GB memory.
